Collective heritage not only reflects the past but also shapes present reality by providing people with the understanding and symbolic framework that enable them to make sense of the world.
The past is frequently used as the mirror in which we search for an explanation and remedy to our present day problem. Heritage is seen as an antidote for the rigours of modern life.
Over the last twenty years signatures of people from the Turkish community were collected as part of the ‘Turkish Heritage in London’ project in Britain.
