‘The Sweetness of Life’ by Françoise Héritier’

Anyone who thinks life sometimes is difficult and unbearable or boring, then they should not overlook to read the book ‘The Sweetness of Life’ by Françoise Héritier.

In her book, the anthropologist Héritier tries to point out events or to the moments, which makes our life precious. This can be from eating, sleeping, working, shopping, cooking, making phone calls, running in the warm rain, laughing with friends or sipping hot mugs of coffee in silence.

With her great wisdom, Françoise Héritier tries to share the importance of life and its gift with the reader.

This wonderful book partly composed of letters and prose directs the light into human life and points to the moments which makes our life happy and content.

She reminds us of all the activities that we take for granted and forget to see the beauty in them. With the crucial question Héritier asks “What about you, what would you miss if all this had to disappear from your life forever?”

And I think by this very question the reader is captured by Françoise Héritier‘s intellect, her meaning of life and understanding of the sweetness of life.

This book is definitely a must-read for everyone who needs to rediscover the joy of living in the moment, and Héritier said that was the only thing she wanted to write about.

“There is a form of lightness and grace in the simple fact of existence, regardless of occupation, of strong feelings, or of political commitments of any sort – and that is the only thing I have wanted to write about. About that little extra thing, that is granted to all of us, a lust for life.”
