Athens on Strike!

Being in one of the oldest cities of the world, Athens, which has a history going back around 3.400 years, is quite an experience one can have. And above all, being in the city which had witnessed the teaching of some of the greatest philosophers such as Plato and Aristotle can be a memorable experience.

And of course travelling within the city when the Greek government was deep in crisis and with a General Strike, everything from public transport workers to refuse collectors away from their daily routine, it was definitely an unforgettable experience for me, while I was attending a conference  on ‘Memory’.

The warm and hospitable Athenians continued with their daily lives during the General Strike regardless; even if it meant spending hours travelling rather than minutes to get to a destination. It gave a whole new meaning to a traffic jam.

The conference that I attended and my entire stay in Athens during the General Strike made its definitive mark on my memory which I won’t forget for years to come, and will last a long-time as a rare experience with all the different aspects of the city; some of them which I captured with my camera.
