Was it right or not – why the decision to award the EU the Peace Prize, was is it justified, is it fair to say that Europe deserved this prize? And all the questions can go on and on after the Nobel Peace Prize committee decided to award this year’s prize of the Nobel Peace Prize to the European Union.
Now to my key question: shall we all laugh at this decision? In my view a very loud yes, as there is not just one reason but thousands of reasons why it was wrong to award a continent with 500 million inhabitants, all called Europeans under a Union.
I do not want to list the reasons here of very crazy reasons, the Norwegians had for their decision. They clearly had some arguments, as columnist Libby Purves argued in her article in the Times newspaper on the 15th of October, why despite its fault, the EU deserved this prize? Well, all this is very debatable.
All the racists, fascists, anti-Semitics, homophobes, xenophobes, paedophiles, drug dealers, smugglers, killers and all the criminals living within the borders of EU breaking the law as European citizens were awarded this collective prize too. Well this must be some kind of a joke..!
But the biggest joke was cracked by the Mayor of London Boris Johnson, as he tried to argue in his article in The Daily Telegraph on the 15th of Oct that the decision of the Nobel Peace Prize committee was wrong and suggested that it should have been awarded to the Ex-British Prime Minister Baroness Margaret Thatcher for her services to the EU.
Yes, you may all laugh at the suggestion, as I did, when I read his article. I think that was astonishingly the best joke of the day by London Mayor. One thing, I really like about Boris Johnson is that he makes me really laugh on issues, which I normally could never think, I can laugh at. Boris Johnson’s popularity as we know, is his natural comic talent, but this talent is mixed by some what many people call his political intelligence. Why should Margaret Thatcher get the Nobel Prize for Peace who took the Country to war while she was in power, how can you justify that Mr. Johnson?
However, the argument why it was really wrong and a devastating decision to award the Nobel Peace Prize to the EU can be understood by the very intelligently put forward argument by Rod Riddle on the 14th of October in The Sunday Times newspaper article. He listed comprehensive reasons of why EU did not deserve the Nobel Peace Prize.
