It came as no surprise that the United States of America bestowed the highest civilian medal to the German Chancellor Angela Markel during her state visit this week. The honour the Presidential Medal of Freedom for the German Chancellor is supposedly for her contribution to the world Peace. This is laughable as Merkal has openly declared war on the diversity amongst German people by denying that multiculturalism is a reality and beneficial for the greater good of Germany.
This could be no further from the reality as her Rightist policies in Germany are disliked by the voters and her coalition Government has been marred by a long list of scandals and looks shaky. If there were to be to an election today it would go the same way as the recent polls and she would be out of office. Her own CDU Party is openly critical of her postion. As the only women chancellor in the history of the Germany and most importantly as a former East German to rise to the highest office is to be commended. The strong and peace movement in Germany has resulted in ensuring Germany does not get embroiled in attacking Libya or any other State since their ill fated support for the Afghanistan occupation.
So what is this award really for? Many believe that Angela Markel may have been awarded the honour due to her Pro American leanings on policies and many see her in Germany as such.
What is worth noting is that she has refused to fall in line with the USA demands for increased deficit spending in Europe in response to the economic crisis and she has demanded strong austerity measures to protect the Euro against the dollar.
The Presidential Medal of Freedom in the eyes of the world has a long list of undeserving recipients. Tony Blair (UK) and Michael Howard (Australia) were both honoured for supporting Bush in his quest to invade Iraq amongst other shocking world figures in the past by the USA Presidents.
Then to top it all Barack Obama himself was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for telling the world that he would close the illegal Guatamno bay and process the prisoners according to agreed International laws. For promising to end the war in Iraq. The evidence suggests that the complete opposite and escalation of war in Afghanistan and new war with Libya as the rest of the Middle East and North Africa sits on a revolutionary tinder box.
Britain may enjoy a special relationship with the USA of the kind Germany can never do. This is clear from the recent visit by Obama to London and incidentally Berlin was not on his itinerary. USA cannot afford to ignore the growing influence economically and politically of Germany in Europe and across the world stage.
There is a consolation that Angela Merkel has gone against the tide and agreed to close all nuclear power stations in Germany by 2022. Her record on creating peace for the tolerance for all Germany’s people is less than perfect and in most cases her attacks on the notion of multiculturalism leave a bitter taste for majority of Germans. Many see that only USA can honour Angela Markel’s achievements abroad and there is no such award in line for her in her own country, which is a pretty sad state of affairs if you choose to go a little deeper.
