“A room without books is like a body without a soul.” – Cicero
Anyone who is a book worm would know the meaning of Cicero’s wise words as reading is one of the greatest pleasures.
And the best way of making people, especially children love reading is by giving them the opportunity to celebrate World Book Day.
This coming Thursday is once again World Book Day in the UK and Ireland and in other countries World Book Day takes place at a different time of the year – usually in April.
Publishers, booksellers and interested parties work together to promote books and reading for the personal enrichment and enjoyment for everyone. And readers in the UK and Ireland can choose books to give away to people they think will enjoy reading them.
Why not choose a favourite book and give it to someone who might enjoy reading it. This way the magic of reading can be spread to other people and they can judge the book as in the words of Sir Francis Bacon: “Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few be chewed and digested: some books are to be read only in parts, others to be read, but not curiously, and some few to be read wholly, and with diligence and attention.”
Yes, books are important for the rooms as soul is for the body.
Do not forget World Book Day, and do not forget to give your favourite book to someone who might enjoy it and start on journey of literary discovery.
