No escape from the fairer sex, Mr. Berlusconi.
If you thought all along as the Prime Minister of Italy, you can have any women you desire, dump them and see them only as sex objects, you were sadly mistaken. Now you are going to have to face the facts in front of an all-female bench that will judge you on the case of paying for sex with an underage prostitute and abusing public office to cover up the alleged offence.
Call it what you will, as fate would have it, all the judges in your country are assigned to cases strictly by rota. This case is no exception.
Millions of Italian women went on the road to protest and show their anger at the 74 year-old prime minister, who is faced with charges of having sexual intercourse with an underage prostitute. In Rome, Naples, Milan and in many other cities across Italy demonstrators carried banners saying: “No prostitutes, no Madonna’s, just women.” And many of the protesters were accompanied by their husbands, boyfriends and/or fathers.
Although Mr.Berlusconi has been on trial numerous times on separate charges of corruption before; his guilty verdicts were overturned on appeal. Berlusconi is a multi-millionaire media magnate. Leaks from the files of the prosecution suggest Mr. Berlusconi brought to his lavish private parties starlets and other women who hoped to use their looks to get into lucrative jobs in his Television Empire or in politics.
With all these facts and still witnessing that Mr. Berlusconi is consistently denying any wrong-doing and claiming he is the victim of a “witch-hunt” against him by left-wing magistrates, is really sad. You cannot even begin to laugh about this as it is not fuuny. But this trial which will begin on the 6th of April will be his biggest judicial challenge so far and carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.
As Mr. Berlusconi continues claiming the million strong marchers were politically motivated; he has called his supporters to a counter-demo on the same day to protest against the “politicised judges who are assaulting him”.
Well, Mr. Berlusconi you can claim however much you like that you are the victim of an ‘evil system’. One thing you can’t take away from the Guinness book of records is that as the opposition newspaper La Repubblica said that you had gained the dubious distinction of being the first Prime Minister in history to be indicted on prostitution-related offences while in office.
What a way to go down in history – for which you and supporters must be very proud!
